Scollay's Reel - Beginner Fiddle Tune

Scollay’s Reel

This month I was practicing the fiddle tune Scollay’s Reel. I tried to know more about the origin of the song, but couldn’t find much… The only thing I could find is that it is a Shetland variant of “King of the Fairies”. If anybody knows more about the song, please let me know in the comments.

I really love the melody and rhythm of this tune. It’s fun to play and it’s helping me to play faster while keeping a clean sound. At least I tried. :-)

The sheet music says a half note is supposed to be played at speed 104, but I did it at 85. Couldn’t do it faster while still having a clean sound. When I do it faster it becomes a bit scratchy. And anyway, I liked this pace. Hope you enjoy!

Like all previous fiddle songs I’ve played this one is also from the book “Beginner Fiddle Collection” with 25 famous fiddle tunes. It’s an arrangement by Loralyn Staples who also has a course to learn to play all these fiddle songs.
